Sunday Night Advisory From Illinois State Police

January 5th, 2014

Illinois_State_Police_sealSince midnight District 7 Illinois State Police have handled 5 property damage crashes and 33 motorist assist/pullouts. Henry County Highway Dept is pulling trucks at 7pm and coming back out at 6am. Midland Rd between Galva and Kewanee is closed, IDOT is bringing out heavy equipment to open it. I-74 between Woodhull and Knoxville is the most dangerous in District 7 at this time.

The National Weather Service is predicting near blizzard like conditions
at times with rapidly changing temperatures. The heavy snowfall, blowing
snow and dangerously cold temperatures are making for extremely hazardous
travel. The National Weather Service and Illinois State Police both
advise to travel only if an emergency and absolutely necessary. Motorist
who choose to travel and become stranded are not only putting their lives
in danger, they are putting additional strain on police and EMS resources.

When crashes occur during extreme weather conditions, the ISP encourages
motorists to exchange insurance and driver information to keep motorists
safe and the roads clear, unless medical attention is required. Motorists
can file crash reports at the nearest ISP District within 10 days.
