$59,000 Raised At Mercer County Youth Livestock Auction

grand champion steerThe 2014 Mercer County 4-H Youth Livestock Auction was held Friday night at the Mercer County Fairgrounds.

In the Sale of Champions, Brea Simkins and her Grand Champion steer was sold to Local Breeders for $1.90/lb.
Justin Guthrie and his Grand Champion pen of rabbits sold to First Farm Credit Services for $375. Brad Spivey and his Grand Champion barrow sold in memory of Phyllis Nelson for $11.90/lb. Caidel Munson and her Grand Champion pen of chickens sold for $275 to Reason’s Meats/Liberty Station. Gretchen Simpson and her Grand Champion Lamb sold at $21/lb. to Line Seeds/Samantha Holland DeKalb-Asgrow. And the Grand Champion Goat shown by Kaitlyn Ryan sold to Wayne Franck-Beck’s Hybrids at $16/lb.

A total of $59,000 was raised in support of the event, including over $10,000 in the Sale of Champions.

In addition, WRMJ and the Brownfield Network presented Kelton Cheline with the 2014 Illinois Ag Youth Award.
