State Rep. Swanson Expressing Concern Over Mileage Tax Talk

State Rep. Dan Swanson

Is a mileage tax a potential possibility in Illinois? That item gaining more attention now that a Democratic super-majority will be arriving in Springfield with the election of J.B Pritzker as Governor.  Local State Rep. Dan Swanson says he’s not seen any potential mileage tax legislation, but he believes it is something to be concerned about.

In addition to a mileage tax, some Illinois lawmakers think the state is a big step closer to legal marijuana after last week’s election.  State Rep. Kelly Cassidy says Governor Bruce Rauner doesn’t support recreational marijuana, and has fought efforts to legalize it in the state.  But she says that governor-elect J.B. Pritzker supports legal marijuana.  He’s looking to use the millions of dollars he expects it to generate to pay for a host of new programs.  Cassidy thinks the new governor could move the state toward legal, recreational marijuana.
