Mercer County and Ridgewood were able to meet in both baseball and softball action on a soggy Thursday and the Spartans won both contests. In baseball, Ridgewood trailed 2-1 heading into their final at bat but rallied with seven runs in the frame for an 8-2 victory. Cole Franks’ three run homer put the nail in the coffin for the Golden Eagles. Franks went the six innings striking out 11 to get the win and Mitchell Brooks pitched the seventh for the save. Jeff Reusch went six innings giving up five earned runs to take the loss.
At Apollo Diamond Ridgewood held off Mercer County for a 2-1 win. The Spartans scored two unearned runs in the third and a base hit by Alli Lambin. Mercer County answered with on in the bottom of the fourth but was shutout the rest of the way. Brooke Jackson went the distance for the win. Dani Hagens took the tough luck loss striking out 12 and walking one.
