Sherrard Man Accused Of Striking Deputy With Car Now In Custody; No Stranger To Mercer County Court System

A Sherrard man accused of striking a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy with his car late Wednesday night is no stranger to the Mercer County court system. There have been six different criminal cases filed against 29 year old Jesse J. Walsh over the years.  He is currently awaiting trial on burglary charges. Walsh was taken into custody just after midnight this morning by Moline police. According to a Mercer County Crime Stoppers media release, Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop on Walsh’s vehicle late Wednesday night and he fled. A short time later Rock Island County Sheriff’s Deputies located Walsh’s vehicle and again he fled. During this incident, a Mercer County Deputy was hit by Walsh’s vehicle. Walsh then crashed his vehicle and fled on foot. The pursuit took place east of Sherrard on the Mercer/Rock Island County Line. The deputy, whose name is not being released, suffered a broken pelvis and right hip.  Walsh is being charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding and Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer.
