Sherrard Man Accused Of Running Over Deputy Waives Prelim

The Sherrard man accused of running over a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy last month has waived his preliminary hearing. 29 year old Jesse Walsh appeared in Mercer County Circuit Court this morning and pleaded not guilty to Class 2 and Class 4 felony charges filed against him. The charges are in connection with an incident the Wednesday before Thanksgiving where Deputy Dennis Sabel was struck by Walsh’s vehicle near Sherrard.  Both Mercer County and Rock Island County officers were involved in the pursuit of Walsh after attempting a traffic stop. He fled on foot after crashing his vehicle and was arrested a day later by Moline police. Walsh remains in custody at the Mercer County Jail on $250,000 bond with a pre-trial conference set for January 8th. Sabel was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City, but is now recovering from his injuries at home.
