Sheriff Candidate Will Stay Off Primary Ballot

January 29th, 2014

circuit courtA Mercer County Circuit Court judge upholds the removal of a sheriff candidate from the primary ballot. The Mercer County Elections Board removed Democrat Ron Schoon from the ballot last month. At issue was the amount of signatures he had for his petition. The candidate challenge was filed by Jan Occhi of Keithsburg. Schoon challenged the election board’s decision to Mercer County Circuit Court, but Judge Greg Chickris denied the appeal today. Three other Democrats are running for sheriff–Jeff Dale, Dave Staley and Caryn Brokaw. And two Republicans are running–George Howard and Chris DeFrieze. The primary is March 18th.
