Portrait Of A Soldier Exhibit Coming To Aledo

bj luxmoreA Mattoon, Illinois artist has honored every Illinois service member killed since the Global War on Terror began in 2001. Cameron Schilling has hand-sketched portraits of the fallen in a project called “Portrait of a Soldier”. The traveling exhibit is coming to Aledo in June as part of the Rhubarb Festival says Pam Myers with Aledo Main Street.

Schilling drew his first portrait in August of 2004, after Army Specialist Charles Neeley of Mattoon was killed in Iraq. In October 2005, while a student at Eastern Illinois University, Schilling decided to draw a portrait of every Illinois service member who has fallen during the Global War on Terror. The portraits are copies of the original, which has been given to the fallen soldiers next of kin.
