Pappas: Inmate Revenue Needs To Be Tied To Jail Refinance Policy

April 8th, 2014

ted pappasBefore the Mercer County Board puts the finishing touches on refinancing the jail addition, Finance Committee Chairman Ted Pappas wants a policy in place to tie any revenue shortfall to the Sheriff’s Department budget. He says the revenue shortfall would involve the money from housing Cook County and U.S. Marshals Service prisoners.

Pappas says if the jail addition would fail it could cost individual property taxpayers on average $100 a year. He and fellow County Board member Dan Schroeder were appointed by County Board Chairman Jeff McWhorter to work on the policy.
