May 6th, 2014

ace camp 2015Over 3,600 students in Mercer County have now attended ACE Camp. The Mercer County Farm Bureau and Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District team up for the effort each year. The project involves local 2nd graders and includes hands on learning in agriculture, conservation and environment. The classroom for a day is the Mercer County Fairgrounds. The first ACE Camp was held in 1996 and the Soil and Water Conservation District’s Bill Joseph has been to all of them.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources District Fisheries Biologist Ken Russell has been a presenter for all 18 years of the ACE Camp and he brings fish, frogs, turtles and other habitat with him.

The latest ACE Camp was held today with over 200 2nd graders from the Sherrard and Mercer County School Districts in attendance.
