National Federation of State High School Associations Celebrates 100 Years; Two Illinois ‘Farm Boys’ Jump Started Organization

H.V. Porter spent an early portion of his career in Keithsburg. He went on to play key roles with the IHSA and NFHS.

WRMJ Sports Director Jim Taylor visited with IHSA historian Scott Johnson this morning. He attended the centennial celebration of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) earlier this week in Indianapolis. It was two Illinois men that played a very instrumental role in starting and growing the organization in the early days–C.W. Whitten and H.V. Porter. Among Whitten’s early stops in his career was Stark County and Porter at one time called Keithsburg home.
