Unemployment at 6.0 percent in Mercer County. The number is for February and represents a 1.3 percent improvement from a year ago, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Unemployment is also down from year over year levels in Henderson, Henry, Knox, Rock Island and Warren Counties mainly due to employment gains in the Professional-Business Services, Leisure-Hospitality and Manufacturing sectors. Statewide, the unemployment rate sits at 5.0 percent with declines in the jobless rate in 13 of 14 metro areas in February says Bob Gough with IDES.
The national unemployment rate is 4.4 percent. The highest unemployment rate in the region is 6.8 percent in Stark County.
