The Mercer County unemployment rate is 9.9 percent. The latest number is from the Illinois Department of Employment Security and is comparable to the 10.1 percent figure recorded last year at this time. Unemployment also remained steady compared to year ago levels in Rock Island, Warren, Henry, Henderson and Knox Counties. In the region, job growth occurred in Leisure-Hospitality, Retail Trade, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities and in Wholesale Trade. Declines were posted in Government, Manufacturing, Construction, and Professional-Business Services. Statewide, the unemployment rate is 8.3 percent and the national rate 6.8 percent. Fulton County has the highest unemployment rate in Western Illinois at 10.7 percent.
