Mercer County Jr. High Student Remains In Custody For Gun Incident

A Mercer County Junior High student who was arrested for bringing an unloaded gun to school last month remains detained. The youth is in custody at the Mary Davis Detention Home in Galesburg with a Mercer County Circuit Court appearance scheduled for June 12th, according to Mercer County State’s Attorney Meeghan Lee. The student was arrested May 11th after a routine search uncovered the 32-caliber handgun in his locker. It was not displayed and no threats were made. The minor has officially been charged with unlawful use of a weapon at school. Lee says the family had the gun locked, but the youth was able to somehow unlock it through a keypad.
