Mercer County Hunters Harvest 518 Deer During First Firearm Weekend

Mercer County hunters took in 518 deer during the first firearm season November 17th through the 19th, which is 87 less from the same period a year ago. The second and final weekend of firearm deer hunting in Illinois runs this Thursday through Sunday. Ed Cross with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says tree-stand safety is important and hunters should check their stand’s condition before using it.

Cross also says hunters should always make sure their gun is unloaded at the end of the day.

During the second firearm weekend last year, Mercer County hunters harvested 261 deer.
