Local Students Fare Well In FFA Competition

Four local students having a good week with FFA activities. Sherrard’s Ann Weber, Nicholas Close and Matthew Lloyd of Mercer County High School, and Nathan Flickinger from Rockridge High School have won FFA District 1 Proficiency Awards.  The competition was held Wednesday at Geneseo High School.  Weber won in the Diversified Livestock category; Flickinger was tops in Fiber/Oil Crops category; Close won in the area of Diversified Crop Production Entrepreneurship and Lloyd took top honors in the area of Poultry Production.  District 1 FFA is the northwestern part of Illinois comprising of FFA Sections 1-through-5.  In being named the District 1 Proficiency Award winners, the four are now finalists for the FFA State Proficiency Awards competition which will be held on March 25th at the University of Illinois.
Close was also named the FFA District 1 Star Farmer this week and is now in the running for the FFA Star Farmer of Illinois.
