An Illinois High School Association administrator with some kind words for late Mercer County historian Stephanie Braucht. The IHSA’s Scott Johnson has just released a book on the association’s first two administrators—C.W. Whitten and H.V. Porter. One of Porter’s first stops was in Keithsburg in the 1914/1915 school term and Johnson says Braucht was a big help on that information.
Braucht passed away last October.
Johnson’s book is called Association Work Whitten, Porter and the Course of Interscholastics. Whitten got his start in education in Stark County. The IHSA was officially formed in 1922 with Whitten serving as the first executive director followed by Porter.
