THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN QUAD CITIES HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH… WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* TIMING… LIGHT FREEZING RAIN IS LIKELY TONIGHT INTO MID MORNING FRIDAY. HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL DEVELOP SATURDAY EVENING AND CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS… 6 TO 9 INCHES SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS… AROUND A TRACE TONIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY.

* WINDS… NORTH 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY.

* VISIBILITIES… UNDER 1/2 MILE AT TIMES SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY DUE TO SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

* IMPACTS… SLICK SPOTS ON UNTREATED ROADS ARE LIKELY TONIGHT IN LIGHT FREEZING RAIN. WIDESPREAD DANGEROUS TRAVEL IS POSSIBLE SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY.

UNTREATED ROADS… AS WELL AS LESS TRAVELED ROADS… WILL BE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO ANY ICING. THE ICE ACCUMULATION THREAT IS EXPECTED TO END BY MID MORNING FRIDAY.

A WINTER STORM WILL LIKELY IMPACT THE ENTIRE AREA SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY. A COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW… SLEET… BLOWING SNOW… AND SOME FREEZING RAIN WILL LIKELY CAUSE DANGEROUS TRAVEL TO AREA. SNOW AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 5 TO 8 INCHES IN IOWA AND FAR NORTHWEST ILLINOIS… TO UNDER 4 INCHES IN WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THESE LOCATIONS ARE LIKELY TO ALSO SEE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF SLEET AND POSSIBLE FREEZING RAIN IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW.
