Fred Rooth, the former Mercer County Board member that was severely beaten during a home invasion in May of 2017, has died. Rooth passed away on Tuesday, July 3, at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. While he recovered from his injuries, Rooth never returned home after the incident. 56 year old Brian Tully of Burlington pleaded guilty to a Class X felony of home invasion in connection with the crime and was sentenced to 30 years in prison and must serve 85-percent of the sentence. Services for Rooth will be held at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo on Friday, July 13th.
