Four Wrestlers To Semi-Finals, Eagles Drop Road Game In OT

Four area wrestlers advanced to tonight’s semi-finals at the Class 1A State Wrestling Tournament in Champaign Thursday.  At 132 pounds, Mercer County’s Camden Whitenack and Rockridge’s Dallas Krueger posted a pair of victories on the day. Nolan Throne of Rockridge at 145 and Orion’s Logan Lee at 285 also picked up two wins to advance.

In boys basketball, Mercer County could not hold on as Wethersfield rallied in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime and used a 9-0 run in the extra frame to pull out an 84-78 victory.  Rockridge won over Riverdale 48-23, Orion topped Rockford Christian Life 55-47 and Rowva-Williamsfield beat West Central 48 in other action.

In junior high sports, ICS topped Mercer County in volleyball.  ICS won 25-17, 25-15 in 7th grade play and 25-8, 25-17 in the 8th grade match.  In wrestling, Sherrard def Mercer County 49-39, Mercer County def Edison 53-27 and Sterling beat Mercer County 58-43.

In scholastic bowl action it was Mercer County 260 Princeville 130 and Mercer County 340 Annawan 100.
