Firearm Deer Harvest Down In Mercer County

deer second seasonThe deer harvest from the two firearm hunting seasons is down in Mercer County this year. 565 deer were shot in the first weekend November 22nd through the 24th and another 185 in the second weekend December 5th through the 8th for a total of 750–which compares to 1,019 a year ago. The Mercer County numbers follow a statewide trend says Tim Schweizer with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Statewide, hunters harvested just over 74,000 deer during the two firearm weekends this year compared to just over 99,500 a year ago.
