The Mercer County Golden Eagles went on the road Tuesday night in the LTC needing a win to ensure a better seed for the conference tournament and they stopped Princeville 59-48 to go to 4-2 in the conference. The Golden Eagles got off to a good start and lead 17-11 after one quarter. Princeville closed the gap to 30-26 at halftime but Mercer County held the Princes to just 2 points in the third quarter to open up a 40-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Brandon Butcher lead the Eagles with 19 points and Tyson Nylin had 17.
The seeding meeting for the Lincoln Trail Conference tournament is tonight at the Eagles are hoping for a top four seed which will give them a first round bye. In other LTC action, Galva beat West Central 68-46 to go to 4-1 in the conference with their lone loss coming to Mercer County on the Wildcats home floor.
In girls basketball, Elmwood beat United 47-28.
