Child Porn Investigation Leads To 16 Felony Counts Against Viola Man; Bond Set At $500,000

16 felony charges have been filed against a Viola man in connection with a child porn investigation.  A search warrant was conducted this morning at the residence of 44 year old James Eric Haley. He is facing a Class X felony of aggravated criminal sexual assault, fourteen Class 1 felonies of child pornography and one Class 2 felony of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The 16 counts stem from alleged incidents in 2014 involving a 15 year old girl.

According to an Illinois State Police press release, on June 13, 2019, ISP Investigators were requested to assist the Viola Police Department with an investigation involving Haley, after receiving information Haley was engaged in sexual abuse and manufacturing child pornography.  Through a thorough investigation, ISP Investigators gathered digital evidence and witness statements supporting the arrest. Haley was arrested this morning (Thursday) and booked in the Mercer County Jail. Bond has been set at $500,000.

The investigation was conducted along with State, Local, and Federal law enforcement partnerships to include the Viola Police Department, Moline Police Department, Rock Island Sheriff’s Department, Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and federal authorities.
