Chargers Top Golden Eagles for Wethersfield Invitational Crown

The Mercer County Golden Eagles volleyball team turned in their best performance in recent history falling to Orion in the championship match of the Wethersfield Invitational Saturday.  The Golden Eagles notched wins over the host Flying Geese, Erie-Prophetstown and Eureka to meet the Chargers in the title match.  Orion took the title winning in straight games, 21-15, 21-15.  Mercer County’s Zoey Miller and Carli Stineman were named to the all tournament team along with the Chargers Mackenzie Grafton and Faith Catour.

At the Macomb Invitational, Sherrard, Rockridge and Ridgewood participated.  Sherrard defeated Kewanee, Rock Island beat Ridgewood but no other results are known.

In soccer, Orion-Sherrard split their first two games on Friday at the Oregon Invitational, beating Yorkville Christian 7-0 but falling to Oregon 2-0.  On Saturday, Orion fell to Rockford East 3-2, beat Princeton 4-0 and lost to Mendota 2-1.

In boys golf, at the Monmouth-Roseville Invitational, Quincy Notre Dame won the team title with a 298 in the 20 team field.  Local teams found Riverdale fourth with a 318,.Rockridge 8th at 343, Sherrard 9th at 350 and Mercer County 15th at 389.
