Chargers, Blue Bullets Win Pitchers Duel For Regional Crown

The Orion Chargers captured their third Class 2A Regional title in a row topping the Mercer County Golden Eagles 2-0 at Rockridge Monday. Dawson Schulenberg allowed just four singles, two walks while striking out seven in picking up the win. Jeff Garrett allowed one earned run while walking one and striking out eight in the tough luck loss. Orion scored single runs in the second and third innings and made it hold up. The Chargers (21-9) will meet Brimfield-Elmwood Wednesday at the Farmington Sectional.

At the Class 2A Rushville Regional, Knoxville rode the pitching of Cal Engebretson to blank Sherrard 2-0. The Tigers missed two scoring opportunities in the first and fifth innings. Kyle Yeater allowed both runs, giving up seven hits and striking out six in the loss. The Blue Bullets scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Knoxville (20-12) will meet Eureka on Wednesday at Farmington.

In Class 1A, Ridgewood won the Princeville Regional with a 12-1 win over Rowva-Williamsfield.

In softball, Mendota beat Orion 8-4 to win the Class 2A Mendota Regional and Princeton won their first regional title ever beating Erie-Prophetstown at Alleman 4-3.
