Cady Waives Prelim In Viola Area Drugs & Weapons Case

A Preemption man has waived his preliminary hearing in a Viola area drugs and weapons case. 29 year old Alex Cady made a brief appearance in Mercer County Circuit Court this morning with a pre-trial conference set for July 16th. He faces a Class X felony of armed violence, Class 2 felony of possession of a stolen firearm, and two Class 3 felonies of felon in possession of a weapon stemming from a June12th incident. A co-defendant in the case–28 year old Donavan Smith of Sherrard—also waived his preliminary hearing last week. He is charged with a Class X felony of armed violence along with other felony charges of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of meth. He was shot during the investigation by a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy. Both Smith and Cady remain in custody at the Mercer County Jail on $500,000 bond. Smith will also return to court on July 16th.
