April 1 Trial Date Set In Sherrard Man’s Firearms Case

A Sherrard man’s federal trial has been moved to April 1st in a firearms case. 29 year old Donovan Smith was arrested last June in the Viola area and was shot by a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy during the incident. Smith faces two counts of unlawful transport of firearms. His pre-trial conference has been continued to March 20th at U.S. District Court in Davenport. A co-defendant in the case, 29 year old Alex Cady of Preemption is due back in Mercer County Circuit Court next Monday. He has filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea to a Class X armed violence charge.  Cady was sentenced to 15 years in prison last October. He is in custody at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg. Smith remains in U.S. Marshals Service custody.
