Emerald Ash Borer Moving Closer To Mercer County

December 11th, 2012

The tree-destroying emerald ash borer is moving closer to Mercer County. The latest evidence is in Henry and Knox Counties says Scott Shirmer, the Illinois Department of Agriculture’s emerald ash borer program manager.

The metallic-green beetle was first discovered in the U.S. in Michigan in 2002, though Shirmer says it has spread as far west as Kansas, as far south as Tennessee, and to the Northeast. 26 counties in Illinois now have evidence of the emerald ash borer, including Stark County.
