November 9th, 2012

Two unsolved Viola bank robberies could be connected to the latest hold-up this week at Union Federal Savings and Loan. Nothing has been ruled out says Viola Police Chief Tom Mulder.

The suspect told bank personnel he had a weapon and demanded cash. He fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and then eventually got into a car. No one was injured.
Two other bank robberies remain unsolved in Viola. Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois was held up on January 12th of 1998 and Union Federal was robbed by a masked bandit on April 5th of 2001.
Anyone with information on this week’s robbery or the two unsolved cases can call Mercer County CrimeStoppers at 582-3500 or toll free at (800)582-2762.
