Republicans Pick Up Seat On County Board, Chairman Loses Re-Election Effort

Current Mercer County Board Chairman Maxine Henry of Keithsburg lost her re-election effort tonight. She was defeated in District 1 by Jeff McWhorter and George Howard 787-to-684-to-577.

In District 2, Brian Anseeuw and Gary Gregg were the winners with 769 and 735 votes over Floyd Utz and Timothy Anderson, who had 695 and 642 votes.

In District 3, newcomers Larry Stone and Tedd Pappas Jr. defeated incumbents Ron Fullerlove and Dave Maynard. Stone with 906 votes, Pappas Jr. with 791, Fullerlove with 748 and Maynard with 744.

In District 4, Fred Rooth and Daniel Schroeder were the winners with 798 and 676 votes. Joe Vann had 640 votes and Jim Campbell had 627.

And in District 5, incumbents Bill Olson and Tom Haines retained their seats with 1,090 and 790 votes. Lee Celske had 744 votes and Bob Alden with 607 votes.

Democrats now have a 6-4 advantage over Republicans on the county board. It had been a 7-3 majority for Democrats. A new county board chairman will be picked in December.

Also tonight, the constitutional carry advisory referendum in Mercer County passed overwhelmingly 6,376 to 1,789.
