Illinois voters showed up in large numbers to cast a ballot before Election Day. Jim Tenuto, with the state’s Board of Elections, says more than one million people won’t have to stand in line today.

Tenuto says all indications point to a lighter voter turnout than 2008, when nearly 72-percent of registered voters cast a ballot. Early and absentee voting was strong in Mercer County, with 953 voters casting ballots before election day, according to Mercer County Clerk Phyllis Bewley.
