WRMJ makes history today. For the first time ever, a Mercer County Circuit Court hearing was recorded by the station. A new Illinois Supreme Court pilot project allows cameras and microphones in the 14th Judicial Circuit, which includes Mercer County. WRMJ covered Mike Bertelsen’s preliminary hearing. Bertelsen, the Mercer County Treasurer, is accused of stealing $800 from the Mercer County Republican Party. He is facing a Class 3 felony theft charge. Probable cause was found to move the case to trial. The following is today’s unedited preliminary hearing.
