County Board Looks At Ridding Itself Of Mercer County Jail Expansion Burden

March 5th, 2013

Mercer County Board Member Ted Pappas, Jr.

Mercer County Board Member Ted Pappas, Jr. of Sherrard says the county general fund is looking at a projected $1.1 million deficit and much of that is attributed to bond payments on the Mercer County Jail expansion and a shortfall in foreign prisoner revenue. He wants to see if the county board can remove itself from the burden. A budget committee has been formed and has been appropriated $5,000 to hire outside counsel to evaluate the issue.
