Local Schools Continue To Struggle With Declining Enrollment

Sherrard School District Superintendent Becky Rodocker

Until enrollment trends are reversed, the Mercer County, Sherrard and Rockridge School Districts will continue to face some difficult challenges.  Sherrard has lost 217 students since 2000. Superintendent Becky Rodocker says even if the state increases state aide, that doesn’t help because the formula is based on per student.

The Mercer County School District has lost 335 students since 2000 and Rockridge has watched its enrollment decline by 45-percent since the mid-1980s.
