Large Turnout For Rockridge Community Meeting

January 31st, 2013

Despite a cold and snowy night, a capacity crowd shows up for a public meeting involving financial challenges facing the Rockridge School District. The forum was last night at the Rockridge High School auditorium. Rockridge School Boad president Dan Neneman says it was great to see the big turnout.

No final decisions made last night, but Rockridge needs to cut $700,000 heading into next school year–and that will likely involve cutting jobs–as many as six teaching positions. Neneman says that’s not fun for anyone.

The large crowd did support seeking a property tax referendum as early as March of 2014, creating an academic foundation, and also moving forward with consolidatingĀ the district’sĀ four elementary schools into one campus near the Rockridge Junior/Senior High complex. Currently, elementary buildings are in Illinois City, Reynolds, Taylor Ridge and Andalusia.
