The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department is closer to reaching an agreement on housing Cook County inmates. Mercer County Sheriff Tom Thompson met with representatives of the Cook County Sheriff’s Department this week at the Mercer County Jail.

Thompson says currently about 35 federal inmates are being housed at the jail. The sheriff’s department receives $50 per day per prisoner from the U.S. Marshals Service.
