Local Attorney Suspended 30 Days From Practicing Law In Illinois

January 24th, 2013

An Aledo attorney and Mercer County School Board member is being suspended 30 days from practicing law in Illinois. The Illinois Supreme Court order was announced this week against Dwight Shoemaker by the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. The one-month suspension is effective February 8th. In addition, Shoemaker must make $21,000 in restitution to the residual beneficiaries of the Olga Lowry Estate. He prepared Lowry’s will in 1991 and she died in 1998. Shoemaker was accused of paying himself $35,000 from the estate for his services as executor and $65,000 for attorney’s fees in connection with the $1.5 million estate. The ARDC accused Shoemaker of charging unreasonable fees and performing his duties with a lack of diligence in the July of 2011 complaint.
