Arrest In Mercer County Bank Robberies

An arrest has been made in two Mercer County bank robberies. Mercer County State’s Attorney Greg McHugh announcing today that 26 year old DeAngelo Dixon of Rock Island has been charged with Class 1 felonies of aggravated robbery stemming from the hold-ups of Union Federal Savings and Loan in Viola on November 8th and First Community Bank in Sherrard on December 10th.

He has also been charged with a Class 3 felony of aggravated battery and a Class 4 felony of unlawful restraint stemming from both crimes. Dixon is already being held in the Stateville Correctional Center in Joliet on unrelated charges. He is serving four years in prison for an aggravated robbery conviction out of Rock Island County. He also has previous aggravated robbery and felon in possession of firearm convictions out of Rock Island County and an aggravated battery conviction out of Peoria County.
Since Dixon has a prior Class 1 felony conviction, he faces up to six-to-30 years in prison on each robbery count if convicted.
