For the second time in two months, a former Mercer County head coach is headed to Sherrard as an assistant. Last month, former Golden Eagle head baseball coach Nick Basala joined Sherrard’s baseball staff as an assistant. Last night, the Sherrard School Board approved hiring Mike Jones as an assistant basketball coach for the Tigers, joining Brian Hutton’s staff. Jones, a Sherrard grad, resigned as Mercer County head boys basketball coach following last season. Jones was also an assistant for Hutton when he served as head coach of Mercer County.
Also last night, the Sherrard School Board hired several assistant football coaches–Scott Hamrick, Jason Timerman, Tad Nelson, Zach Chellew and Kevin Miller. And Michael O’Brien was hired as a volunteer assistant.
