The Mercer County unemployment rate at 5.4 percent. The number is for April and represents an eight-point increase from the same period a year ago. Unemployment is also up from year over year levels in Henry, Henderson, Knox, Rock Island and Warren counties In the region, total nonfarm employment increased +2,300 compared to April 2018. The Professional-Business Services (+1,100), Construction (+1,100), and Manufacturing (+600) sectors reported the largest payroll gains. Retail Trade (-400) and Government (-300) sectors recorded the largest employment declines compared to one year ago.
Statewide, over the year job growth was posted in ten out of the state’s 14 metro areas in April says Sam Salustro with the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Statewide, the unemployment rate is 4.0 percent with the national rate at 3.3 percent.
