Two Aledo veterans among 200 veterans statewide being honored under the Bicentennial Honor 200 program.  The recognition goes to Daren Dietmeier and Nick Seefeld and is from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Illinois Bicentennial Office and honors veterans who continue to make extraordinary contributions to the people of Illinois. Dietmeier is a regular at many veterans causes and we spoke to him a few years ago about local veteran Casey Celske and Celske’s work in World War II.

Seefeld has worked on a number of local veterans projects and we spoke with him last spring about a welcome home caravan for Mercer County veterans participating in the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

As part of Honor 200 recognition,  both Seefeld and Dietmeier have been invited to attend the state’s official 200th birthday celebration at the United Center in Chicago on December 3rd.

The 200 recipients represent more than 50 counties across the state of Illinois. Nominees were evaluated based on their achievements, and on the extent to which their contributions have aided, benefited and provided inspiration to their community at large.  In addition, nominees must have received an honorable discharge from the U.S. military and reside in Illinois.
