Walmart To Close Second Small Town Store In Illinois; Company Says No Additional Closures Planned At This Time

Another small town Walmart is closing in Illinois. Should Aledo be concerned? WRMJ reached out to Walmart corporate about the future of the Aledo store and this was the response this morning: “We have no plans to close other area stores at this time.” One of the Illinois stores that closed in July was in Clinton and City Administrator Tim Followell believes shopping trends—like e-commerce, are having a huge impact on retail brick and mortar stores, especially in small towns.

The other Illinois Walmart set to close is in Pana. The store originally opened in 1983. Clinton, Illinois has a population just over 7,100 and Pana, Illinois has a population of just over 5,500.
