A local state lawmaker wants to allow high school seniors, who have already entered the military, the option to wear their uniforms during graduation ceremonies. State Representative Dan Swanson’s bill does just that.
He says there have been a number of incidents in Illinois and around the country where school rules prohibit such action. If Swanson’s legislation is approved in the Illinois Senate, Illinois will join such states as New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and California which allow for students who have already entered the military to wear their dress uniforms at their high school graduation. House Bill 5561 was approved in the House on a vote of 103-0.
