Former Mercer County Board Consultant Sent to Prison In Federal Case Involving State Farm

The former head of McLean County government and a former consultant for the Mercer County Board is heading to prison for a year for work he didn’t do in the private sector. Matt Sorensen apologized yesterday, just before a judge sentenced him to a year and a day in federal prison. Sorensen pleaded guilty in November to scamming a consulting firm out of almost a half-million-dollars in work that he never performed for State Farm. Sorensen also formerly served as an independent contractor for the consulting firm Bellwether, which has an agreement with the Mercer County Board.  But none of his work with Mercer County was involved in the criminal investigation.
