School Funding Bill Could Come Up For Vote This Week

A plan to revamp the state’s school funding method could be up for a vote this week. State Senator Andy Manar says he thinks there’s enough support to get it through the Senate, without Republican support. The plan aims to create a more equal funding system that ensures poor school districts get more money from the state. Mercer County and Sherrard would gain under the plan, while Rockridge would lose up to $317 per student in state aid. It creates an interesting dilemma for local lawmakers says Rockridge superintendent Chet Lien.


Sherrard would gain $61 per student and Mercer County $66 per student under the plan.
