LaHood Pushes Natural Disaster Assistance Legislation

lahood speakingWhen the Federal Emergency Management Agency declined to provide assistance to Illinois communities devastated by storms last fall — not once but twice — a bi-partisan group of state lawmakers, including local State Senator Darin LaHood, got together to address disaster assistance. LaHood is pushing a measure that will enable the state’s disaster agency–IEMA, to step in and provide grants and loans to communities to help reimburse expenses associated with natural disasters.

The senate approved the bill on a vote of 58 to 0 and the legislation now moves to the house for consideration.
