March 29th, 2014

mercer county high school signThe Mercer County School District will hire from within for its new high school principal. Math teacher Stacey Day has accepted the offer to fill the position. She will replace Gavin Sronce next school year. Sronce has accepted an administrative job in the Bureau Valley School District. The plan is for a negotiated contract to be ratified by the Unit 404 Board of Education on  April 9th.

Superintendent Alan Boucher says there were 21 applicants for the position. Seven candidates were chosen for an initial interview. Three finalists were then selected and brought in for a series of three interviews with the high school staff, the principals and the Board. All three groups selected Day as their top candidate.  She has been a teacher in Westmer and now the Mercer County School District since 2003 and was just named a Master Teacher by The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus.
