Special Deer Hunt Begins Friday In City Of Rock Island

jason foyA deer hunt will get under way Friday in Rock Island. The intent is to thin the deer herd, which number around 400 and has been damaging plants and trees. A dozen hunters have been selected to shoot deer via bow-and-arrow for the remainder of the state’s archery deer season, through January 19th says Deputy Police Chief Jason Foy.

The in-city deer hunt was recently approved by the Rock Island City Council. The 12 hunters who were approved are all Illinois residents, but they don’t all live in Rock Island. Seven locations have been designated up for the hunters: two on golf courses, one in a cemetery and four on private property.
