County Board Able To Put Together Budget Without Drastic Measures

ted pappasThe Mercer County Board able to adopt a surplus budget for the new fiscal year, and they did so without taking any drastic measures. In past years, the county board had floated ideas such as closing the courthouse one day a month or looking at employee furlough days. But Finance Committee Chairman Ted Pappas says they were able to move forward with a workable budget by reducing health insurance costs by 10-percent and freezing all wages.

The Cook County agreement involves housing inmates at the Mercer County Jail. The new fiscal year begins December 1st.
