Schock Offering Advice To Illinois Republicans

Peoria Congressman Aaron Schock

As Mercer County Republicans get set to gather for their annual Lincoln Day Dinner this weekend, a central Illinois congressman and potential candidate for governor is offering advice to Republicans throughout the state. Aaron Schock of Peoria says the Illinois Republican Party shouldn’t be fighting itself. Schock has not been directly involved in efforts by some Republican leaders to overthrow the state party chairman for publicly supporting same-sex marriage. Schock says in Illinois, where everything has to break right for a Republican to win, this is counterproductive.

The move to upend state Republican Chairman Pat Brady, led by State Senator Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove, has been unsuccessful so far. A meeting of the state Republican Central Committee one week ago was cancelled when it was determined that not enough committee members wished to dump Brady.
